What is a Merca staff infection?
Yes MRSA is contagious, It can be fatal if not treated because she could go septic meaning the infection could spread into her bloodstream. Also the wound should be cultured and sent to the lab to see which antibiotics are resistant(wont work) and which ones are receptive(will work) then antibiotic treatment can begin to clear up the infection. If the hand is draining any type of fluid and it gets into her healing tummy incision then you have introduced the Mrsa to another part of the body. MRSA can be airborne meaning if the person has it in the nose or mouth then by sneezing or coughing the nasty little bacteria can be spread to whomever is in the room. Or it could transmitted to somebody else by coming into open contact(meaning any open wounds on you or small cuts or even a hangnail getting any of the following in your eyes, or nose, mouth, any open entry into your body) with the blood, urine, pus, feces(poop). Example: her wound on her hand has drainage the she has a new incision which isnt healed so it has open areas, incision starts healing so it itches she scratches, drainage of any kind from hand gets into new incision and now it is MRSA infected. I have worked on the surgical/orthopeadics unit for 10 years and all of our MRSA patients we put in isolation meaning a private room and all who enter must glove up and put on an isolation gown so that we dont give it to any of our other patients or our own family members. If its in the nose or whatnot then we glove gown and wear a protective mask so we dont breathe it in if they sneeze or cough wealso keep the wounds that are infected covered with dressings( gauze wraps or whatever the doc orders) and make sure the stay clean dry and in place and change them when they become soiled. I hope this helped you oh and first and foremost GOOD HANDWASHING and try to keep her from touching and scratching her infected sites. I am not an expert but this is just what I know.
Yep - I would agree with that.. Thanks for the line.
